If you are self employed and work as a CIS Contractor this is how Pebble Payroll can help you.

We understand how confusing payroll can be, so we take the headache away from you, letting you get on with your job, knowing you have the right insurance and contributions taken care of in one tax-deductible fee.

What is a contractor?

If you provide services to a company or client, then you are a contractor. This can mean that whilst they have provided the opportunity to work, you may not be directly engaged by them. It is imperative that, are a CIS self-employed contractor, you take responsibility for your own tax and National Insurance contributions.

Your responsibilities as a contractor

Knowing what you should do in terms of obligations to HMRC can be overwhelming when you first become a contractor. The IR35 rules came into force in April 2021, meaning HMRC will determine whether a contractor falls within or outside IR35. If you are being treated as though you were a full-time employee with the same benefits, you will be deemed to fall within the IR35 rules. Still unsure?
You are classed as self-employed or a contractor if any of the following apply:

  • You submit bids or give quotes to get work
  • You submit invoices for the work they’ve done
  • You are responsible for paying your own National Insurance and tax
  • You tend to work under your own remit without supervision
  • You do not receive holiday or sick pay when not working

We take care of all your obligations with a small fee that is classed as expenses at the end of the tax year.

Payroll

We have developed a simple payroll system where we process your invoices, generate a pay slip and help you keep track of your earnings.

Tax

Our payroll experience means we can take your tax at source using the correct codes, so you don’t need to worry about it at the end of the year.

Employers Liability

You need to safeguard yourself against potential employee claims. We cover you for this insurance with a single fee that covers our entire service.

Personal accident

Personal accident cover is necessary just in case you injure yourself at work. We can take care of that for you as part of our payroll processing.

CIS self employed pay role frequently asked questions

When will I receive my payslip?

Payslips are usually issued on a Wednesday afternoon. This can be subject to change depending on Bank Holidays.

What is the difference between my headline rate - that is on my payslip and my hourly rate?

The hourly rate on your payslip is higher than your agreed-upon rate. This is to ensure that we can charge your employer the National Insurance they have to pay into your NI pot on your behalf.

Why does my payslip show two figures for National Insurance?

Your payslip will show the National Insurance contributions made by you and your employer as two separate figures.

Holiday Pay

PAYE Umbrella contractors are Pebble employees and are entitled to holiday pay based on 28 days’ holiday (including bank holidays) per year. The preferred method of payment for the holiday is weekly, as shown on your wage slip.
